What’s Holding Me Back? Clothes!

I finally got around to working on an area of the basement that had been causing me a lot of stress and feelings of overwhelm – the back of the storage room.  It was a disaster…

Only one word can describe this…AHHHHH!
Only one word can describe this…AHHHHH!

I went through the standard process of sorting, purging, and figuring out where things should live.  As I was going through everything, the question I kept asking myself was, “Why has this taken me so long?”

Besides the obvious answers of the first trimester with The Mr. being so exhausting and life in general taking precedence, there was another answer and it had to do with these boxes of clothes in the back.

The cause of my stress – clothes!!!
The cause of my stress – clothes!!!

These bags were filled with clothes I wore to my office job before I started Space & Serenity.  I LOVED that wardrobe.  Not the job, the wardrobe.  I do not love my current wardrobe, which makes me sad.  Plus, I’m not the same shape I was before I had X-man so many of those clothes don’t fit like I want them to.  It’s okay, but it’s still kind of a bummer. 🙂

Since these bags of clothes don’t match my current life (or current shape), they need to leave the house and stop clogging up the storage room.  But then I hit another road bump…where should they go?  I wanted to do one of the following:

  1. Get money for the clothes.
  2. Have them go to a good home.

I gave up on #1 because it wasn’t the right season to consign them, and Craig’s List was going to take more time that it was worth. So I was onto #2.  Luckily I had a friend who was able to take most of the clothes, and I was left with just one small box to handle – SUCCESS!  Truth be told, I haven’t handled it yet, but it is nicely contained and isn’t clogging up the storage room anymore.

What a change! I can breathe again.
What a change! I can breathe again.

I put the room back together, and I feel so much better about the space.  It needs more work (the shelving could definitely use a good purge), but at least now I don’t have an anxiety attack when I need to get our suitcases.
